A woman was arrested for burning her 14-year-old son to death in Narayanganj on Saturday.
Locals captured and handed over Lipi Begum, 34, to the police.
Earlier on Friday, the accused's son Raju died while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
That same night, Raju's father, Anwar, filed a case with the Narayanganj Sadar model police station.
According to the case documents, Anwar Hossain and Lipi Begum got married 18 years ago. They have two sons, 17-year-old Ryan and Raju.
However, Anwar and Lipi separated some 12-13 years ago due to a family feud. After the separation, Ryan and Raju lived with their mother.
On the night of November 13, Lipi tied Raju's hands and feet with a rope with the help of two to three people.
They later allegedly poured kerosene on him and set him on fire.
At that time, Raju screamed, and people from the surrounding areas rushed to put out the fire.
Raju was first taken to Sadar General Hospital. Later, he was admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Meanwhile, Minu Begum, the aunt of the deceased, claimed that Raju had lost his job at a factory due to reported irregularities for the past seven months.
“When his mother scolded him, Raju poured kerosene on himself and set himself on fire.”
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anisur Rahman Molla Narayanganj Sadar model police station said that Lipi has been arrested on the charge of killing the child.
“The case is under investigation. Efforts are on to find out what the victim said before his death,” he added.
