With an aim to celebrate “Equal opportunities in Science”, the Goethe-Institut together with ten local partners is organizing the 4th edition of Science Film Festival in Bangladesh.
The festival, which will showcase 24 films in a hybrid format, enabling both offline and online attendance, will be inaugurated on Saturday in the Dhanmondi premises of the Maple Leaf International School, said a media statement on Thursday.
The ceremony will be inaugurated by Dr Kirsten Hackenbroch, director of the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh. To celebrate this year's theme ‘Equal opportunities in Science', the program will host a short film screening, a costume contest followed by a puppet show by Dhaka Puppet Theater and performances by school students and the band F Minor.
A selection of 23 films will be in view for the Bangladesh audience where filmmakers, educators, students and film enthusiasts can watch the films through registration.
To create a better reach for the audience, three films have been dubbed in Bangla.
Along with screening of the films, workshops for students and educators, quiz and science talks will be carried out throughout the festival time. Along with online screening of the films, local partners will screen the films in selected venues.
Two online workshops along with offline events will also be organized in December.

The Science Film Festival is a celebration of science communication in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. In cooperation with local partners, it promotes science literacy and facilitates awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues through international films with accompanying educational activities.
The event has grown considerably since its first edition in 2005, becoming the largest event of its kind worldwide. And this year it is committed to increase the awareness on the issue of diversity and inclusiveness in the STEM fields from underrepresented groups.

The festival will continue from October 1 to December 20, 2022.
The partners include The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), University of Liberal Arts (ULAB), Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB), the Tech Academy, JAAGO Foundation, NetzBangladesch, Alokito Hridoy Foundation and the International Children's Film Festival Bangladesh (CFS), PASCH-Schools: Partners for the Future Maple Leaf International School, European Standard School (ESS) and Mastermind International School, Chittagong.
