Cyclone Sitrang weakens into depression

Cyclonic Storm Sitrang has weakened into a land depression and due to its impact light to moderate rain or thundershowers is likely to occur at some places of the country, said a Bangladesh Meteorological Department bulletin this morning.

"The Cyclonic Storm Sitrang over East-central Bay and adjoining West-Central Bay and North Bay moved northeastwards weakened rapidly into a Land Depression over Dhaka-Cumilla-Brahmanbaria and adjoining area. It now lies over Netrokona and adjoining area as a well-marked low. It is likely to move north or northeast further and become unimportant next within 6 hours," said the bulletin valid for the next 24 hours commencing at 9am on Tuesday.

"Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country," it added.

However, the day and night temperature may rise by (1-3°C) over the country.

The highest temperature on Monday was recorded 30.4°C in Teknaf, while Tuesday's minimum temperature was 19°C in Rajarhat.

Maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6am today was recorded 324 millimeters (mm) at Barishal.

The sun sets at 6:24pm on Tuesday and rises at 6:01am on Wednesday in the capital.
