Sonamani Lohar, daughter of a tea worker, performed duty as Sylhet sadar upazila family planning officer for an hour on Wednesday.
On the occasion of International Girl's Day (Girls Takeover), Sonamani Lohar, a class X student of Green City Collegiate School, took charge of the responsibilities of the officer Abul Mansur Ashzad.
Family planning officers of the office were under her supervision for an hour.
Sonamoni Lohar said: “I am the daughter of a tea worker. Today I feel proud to have the responsibility of this department.”
Sonamoni requested Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to create more opportunities for them so that the children of tea workers can get government jobs after completing education.
She also appealed to everyone to make the family planning department more dynamic.
Sonamani Lohar requested the senior officials to make Sylhet district women-friendly and to take maximum measures to prevent violence against women.
The family planning officer Abul Mansur Ashzad said that no society can develop without women.
“We have to move our society forward with women. We must all unite to ensure the protection of women.”
The initiative was taken under “Y Moves project” organized by Reliant Women Development Organization in collaboration with Plan International Bangladesh.
