An elderly woman and her grand-daughter burned to death as a fire broke out at a house in Daulatdia of Goalondo upazila in Rajbari district on Sunday night.
The deceased were identified as Boru Begum, 90, wife of Rukman and her grand-daughter Tasmia Akhter, 9.
The fire broke out following an electric short circuit from a ceiling fan of their house in Ansar Beparipara of Daulatdia union around 9:30pm. Later, the fire engulfed the entire house, said police quoting family members.
On information, a firefighting unit from Goalondo fire service station rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire after half an hour.
Later, they recovered the charred bodies of the victims.
The fire also gutted the house entirely.
On information, Goalondo Upazila Parishad Chairman Md Mostafa Munshi, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Zakir Hossain and Officer-in-Charge Swapan Kumar Mazumder, visited the spot.
