At least seven people were killed in Tangail in two separate road crashes on Thursday.
As many as six people were killed and several others were injured following a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu bridge highway in Tangail.
The tragic accident took place in Golchattar area on the east side of the Bangabandhu Bridge, said Ataur Rahman, sub-officer of Elenga fire service.
The deceased have been identified as microbus driver Dulal Hossain, 52, his assistant Sushil Chandra Shil, 45, passengers Maleka Banu Ruby, 65, her son Rifat Al Hasan, 35, and bus passengers Jahirul Islam, 50, and Tamim, 7.
Dhaka TribuneThe accident took place when the Dhaka-bound “Ekata Paribahan” bus smashed the microbus from the front side, leaving three people dead on the spot and several others injured.
The injured people were taken to Tangail General Hospital where doctors declared three others dead.
Dhaka TribuneMeanwhile, another 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a truck hit him in the district’s Nagarbari area in the evening.
The deceased has been identified as Taposh Das, son of Gopal Das, said Kalihati police station SI Anwar Hossain.
He said Taposh was headed towards Mirzapur when a truck hit his vehicle from the back, killing him instantly on the spot.
