Panchagarh boat capsize: Bidyanondo extends financial support to 9 families

Bidyanondo Foundation, a voluntary organization, has come forward with financial support to nine families who lost their sole income earner in a boat capsize in the Korotoa river in Panchagarh’s Boda upazila on September 25.

The foundation provided financial assistance of Tk15 lakh to the extremely poor families.

Considering the level of poverty, these families were given cash assistance of minimum Tk1 lakh to Tk3 lakh.

Md Jahurul Islam, deputy commissioner of Panchagarh, handed over the money to the families at his office on Monday.

Besides, a packet of various food items was provided on the occasion of Durga Puja.

Pradip Chandra, 35, son of Maniram Chandra of Shingpara village, was among 69 victims, who died in the boat capsize incident. 

His body was recovered a day after the accident. He was the only earning member in his family. He used to run the family with his wife and two sons of seven and six years of age as daily wage earners. 

After his sudden death in the incident, his family became very helpless, said his wife, Chandana Rani. 

The deputy commissioner handed over Tk3 lakh in cash and a packet of various food items to Chandana on behalf of the foundation.

At this time, Chandana Rani could not hold back her tears. 

She said : “I don't know what the money will do for me. Please everyone pray for us, so that I can raise the two boys.”

Jamal Uddin, board member of the foundation, visited the incident spot and distributed 14 life jackets among 14 fishermen in Aulia ghat.
