Rahima Begum, who was found after being missing for 29 days, was released to the custody of the plaintiff’s daughter Aduri Akhter on Sunday.
Rahima was produced before the court and after hearing her statement, the court released her.
Later, she was taken to her younger daughter Adury’s house in the Boyra area PBI Inspector Abdul Mannan, the investigating officer of the case, told Dhaka Tribune.
“Rahima Begum gave her statement under section 22 to judge Al Amin of Metropolitan Magistrate Court 2 at around 6pm on Sunday. After the deposition, Rahima was produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistarte 4 Judge Sarwar Ahmed,” said Abdul Mannan.
Afruzzaman Tutul, the plaintiff’s lawyer, said that Rahima had given the court a detailed account of her abduction. She mentioned that she was abducted over a land dispute. Later she took shelter in Muksudpur and Faridpur. 4-5 of those named in the case were involved in the abduction.
Khulna PBI Police Superintendent Syed Mushfiqur Rahman said that KMP police rescued Rahima on Saturday night and brought her to Khulna. She was kept at Khulna Victim Support Centre at night. Police handed over Rahima to PBI on Sunday morning.
On August 27, Rahima went missing after she had stepped out to fetch water near her home in Banikpara area of Khulna’s Doulatpara upazila around 10pm. Her family found her sandals, scarf and the pitcher she was carrying from the spot.
On Thursday, Rahima was presumed dead by her daughter Maryam Mannan.
"I have just found my mother's body," Maryam Mannan, daughter of Rahima Begum, wrote in a Facebook post.
However, the PBI, Khulna's Daulatpur police station and Mymensingh police could not confirm the matter.
Rahima was rescued from a house on Saturday night in Faridpur's Boalmari upazila. She had been staying there since September 17, said police.
