The Jalalabad Gas T&D Systems Limited (JGTDSL) is set to install 50,000 pre-paid gas metres.
The gas regulatory company and The Consortium of Zenner, Metering Technology (Sanghai) and Hexing Electrical Company, China signed an agreement in this regard on Sunday.
JGTDSL Company Secretary Md Shohidul Islam and Hexing Electrical Company's Regional CEO Leo Xu signed the agreement respectively.
Under the agreement, 50,000 gas consumers under Sylhet City Corporation and Sylhet Sadar will come under the pre-paid card facilities by 2023.
Project Director Liton Nandi told Dhaka Tribune that the move is to stop the misuse of gas.
He added that in the first phase of the implementation, Sylhet city’s Housing Estate and Uposhahar areas will get the pre-paid meters in November and December this year.
CourtesyAfter piloting in these two areas, the installation will begin in full swing by February.
The cost of the metre will be adjusted with the monthly usage.
Consumers can recharge the pre-paid cards from any nearby recharging points and emergency balance will be available.
JGTDSL Managing Director Engineer Shoaib Ahmed Matin said that the project is being funded by the state.
He hoped that installation of the metres will be complete by December 31, 2023.
