Govt in search of columnist to tackle negative campaigns against Bangladesh

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is taking an initiative to find good columnist who would counter negative campaigns against Bangladesh.

The information has been revealed from the meeting of the parliamentary committee to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.

The ministry officials requested the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs to inform them if they knew of any good columnist.

The ministry was working on a proposal to the Ministry of Public Administration to create a sub-wing called Expatriate Diplomacy under the public diplomacy wing of the ministry.

According to sources, the ministry came up with the idea in a report responding to a previous query of the parliamentary committee that had asked it to inform the action taken to stop anti-Bangladesh propaganda.

In the report, the ministry said that many expatriate and immigrant Bangladeshis remained engaged in negative campaigns against the Bangladesh government and that their frequent presence on social media and other media and their anti-national comments, speeches, and propaganda were hurting the image of the country.

The Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Masud Bin Momen said in the previous meeting that the issue of anti-Bangladesh propaganda is being looked into seriously by the ministry.

Nahim Razzak, a member of the committee, said that recently, various diasporas outside the country are making negative campaigns against Bangladesh. Missions should play a strong role in countering them.

Foreign minister AK Abdul Momen told the meeting that since his ministry did not have the skilled manpower to write articles with various information, arrangements had been made to write positive articles about Bangladesh through outsourcing with remuneration.
