Teen commits suicide after having phone taken away

A teenager in Chapainawabganj has reportedly killed himself after his phone was taken away by his mother. 

The incident was reported from the district’s Gomstapur Upazila around 7:30am on Sunday. 

The deceased has been identified as Shah Alam, 17, an eighth grader. 

According to police and local sources, Shah Alam was playing PUBG on his mobile phone early in the morning. 

His mother took away the phone when he refused to get up, after which he entered his room and hung himself from the fan using a towel. 

Shah Alam's father Kabir Ali said: "My son had always been very stubborn. If he was scolded a little, he would go hours without eating”

According to Kabir, Shah Alam was working for a local electronics shop for over a year along with continuing his studies. 

“He was addicted to playing games on his phone. This morning his mother forcibly took away his phone as he refused to get out of bed.”

Gomstapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Almas Ali Sarkar said that preparations are underway to send the body to the hospital for autopsy. 

:Legal action will be taken in this regard,” he added.
