The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has launched a service to operate speed boats around Dhaka via waterways in a bid to reduce traffic gridlocks on the roads of the capital.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell inaugurated the service at Tongi river port on Saturday morning.
The service will initially have five speed boats.
The two initially scheduled routes are Abdullapur-Kadda and Abdullapur-Ulukhola.
The fare on the Abdullapur-Kadda route is Tk150 and the ride will last around 25 minutes.
On the other hand, the fare on the Abdullapur-Ulukhola route is Tk120 and the ride will be around 19 minutes.
