IUB wins gold in men’s cycling on Sports Championship opening day

Noble Dey, an eighth-semester student of Marketing at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), won gold in the men’s cycling event on the opening day of the ongoing Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Championship.

He received the gold medal from Md Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP, State Minister for Youth and Sports, after the event at Dhaka’s Hatirjheel on Friday, said a press release.

Khandoker Israt Zahan Rifa, a fifth-semester student of Human Resources Management at IUB, emerged fifth in the women’s cycling contest.

Noble Dey said: “This is one of the proudest moments of my life. A lot of hard work went into the preparations and it’s great to see the result. Sincere gratitude to the organizers of this fantastic event. We hope to see many more of these in the future.”

Tanweer Hasan, vice chancellor of IUB, said: “Noble Dey has made the entire IUB

community proud. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Khandoker Israt Zahan Rifa for securing the fifth position in the women’s cycling event. You both make us proud.”

“At IUB, we have taken a number of initiatives to enhance the quality of student life through sports and other co-curricular activities,” he further added.

The championship has been organized this year to mark the golden jubilee of independence and the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, added the press release.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports organized the third edition of the Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Championship and it began on Friday at the Hatirjheel Amphitheatre with the 21km marathon and 14km cycling events.

Around 7,000 students from 125 public and private universities are taking part in 12 events including football, cricket, swimming, athletics, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, handball, kabaddi, chess, cycling and badminton.
