United Nations Police Adviser and Police Division Director Luís Carrilho has lauded the Bangladesh Police’s contribution to and outstanding performance in UN peacekeeping missions and highly praised the professionalism and efficiency of the law enforcement agency.
Luís Carrilho met with Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed at UN headquarters in New York, US on Friday, according to a press release issued the next day.
In the meeting, the UN Police Division chief said Bangladesh was one of the major contributors to UN peacekeeping operations, before applauding the roles police personnel from the country play in maintaining peace in different war-torn countries around the world.
Carrilho said Bangladesh had been sending more and more female police officers for peacekeeping operations, which was an important step towards empowering women and establishing gender equality.
In response, IGP Benazir Ahmed said the Bangladesh Police was always ready to respond to any need of UN peacekeeping missions.
