A case has been filed against 100 BNP men in connection with a clash with police on Monday.
A total of 50 named individuals, including Sonagazi upazila unit BNP President Giyas Uddin, General Secretary Jamal Uddin Sentu and 50 other unnamed people were named in the case, said Sonagaji model police station OC Khaled Hossain.
He said that the BNP men are charged with throwing brickbats at police, and obstructing government work, reports Bangla Tribune.
"The BNP activists blocked the road and burned tires. When we asked them to move from the road, they attacked the police officers,” OC Khaled mentioned.
ASP Mashkur Rahman, SI Ariful Islam Dolan, and five other policemen were injured during the clash.
As many as 40 rounds of tear shells and rubber bullets were fired to bring the situation under control. Five BNP activists were arrested from the spot on Monday afternoon, OC Khaled said.
Meanwhile, Jamal Uddin, secretary general of Sonagazi upazila unit BNP said as part of the central program announced, they organized a demonstration in the upazila’s Zero Point area, but Awami League was already holding a meeting there.
Hence, he added, BNP shifted its program to Bhiarab road.
“Shorty after the demonstration, police started assaulting the leaders and activists of BNP, which later led to a clash,” he added.
Five BNP men were injured in the crash, the secretary general said.
