Bangladesh fisherman dies in India hospital

A fisherman has died while undergoing treatment in an Indian hospital. 

He was rescued in India on August 23 while floating in the Bay of Bengal.

The deceased was identified as Yunus Gazi, 47, son of Sukkur Gazi of Patuakhali district.

His relatives requested the prime minister through the district administration to bring the dead body back to the country, said Barguna District Trawler Owners Association Secretary Mohammad Masum Akon on Sunday.

On August 15, he went fishing in the Bay of Bengal in the FB Jannat trawler. The trawler then capsized in a storm on August 19. 

Four days later Indian fishermen found him floating in the water, rescued him and took him to Takdir Specialized Hospital in Kakdwip, West Bengal, India. 

He died there on Friday while undergoing treatment.

The secretary of the Trawler Owners Association also said that the family has made a demand to the government to get his body back.

Mohammad Masum Akon further said, 46 Bangladeshis are in jail in Kakdwip, 11 in Raidighi police station and 17 in different Coastal police stations of India. 

Among them, Yunus Gazi died while undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Barguna District Fishing Trawler Owners Association President Golam Mostafa Chowdhury who went to rescue all the fishermen in India said: “We are trying to bring the fishermen back to the country on behalf of the association. We want the

government’s support in this regard.”
