Former state minister of Home Affairs of Bangladesh and lawmaker Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj, popularly known as Sohel Taj, made a sudden visit to the Awami League president’s Dhanmondi party office on Thursday, with some followers.
Even though he is inactive in politics for a long time, he recently expressed his interest to join Awami League, ahead of the next central council of the ruling party in December.
When Sohel Taj entered in the party office general supporters received him cheerfully. Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim also received Sohel Taj warmly.
He said: “Usually Awami League office is open for all party activists and supporters, anybody can come here anytime except BNP-Jamaat.”
When contacted, Sohel Taj told Dhaka Tribune: “I have visited the party office today (Thursday) after a long time to meet my former colleagues and staff of the office. It was a pleasant evening. Youth activists of the Awami League and central leaders also welcomed me.”
“From now on I will visit the party office frequently, after all, it's Awami League’s party office, our office,” he added.
In a recent interview with Dhaka Tribune, Sohel Taj said that he was ready to take any position in the party if Awami League is willing.
Awami League insiders said Sohel Taj visited the party office to give a message that he is willing to join the central committee of the Awami League.
Sohel Taj is the son of Bangladesh’s first prime minister Tajuddin Ahmad.
