As one death from monkeypox was reported in India, the Moulvibazar district is at risk of the disease due to its location adjacent to the border, say doctors.
Moulvibazar district Civil Surgeon Dr Chowdhury Jalal Uddin Murshed confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
When contacted on mobile phone, he said all the medical officers of Moulvibazar 250-bed Hospital have been trained on monkeypox.
“However, we have not received any instructions in this regard so far. I think it is important to scan the legal travellers of the two countries, especially at the check post,” he added.
Moulvibazar has a border area of about 257km with India. The people of the two countries regularly travel legally and illegally through the Srimangal Sindurkhan border area, Chatlapur area in Kulaura and Kurma area in Kamalganj and Raghana Botuli area in Juri upazila.
But, till now, precautionary measures against monkeypox have not been taken in the border areas across the district.
Meanwhile, Indian media reported that one person lost his life due to monkeypox in the state of Kerala on Monday.
Besides, five people have been diagnosed with monkeypox in India so far.
Among them, four are from Kerala and one from Delhi. The infected four people from Kerala recently returned to India from abroad.
