A total of three students have been stabbed when they went to protest the physical assault of a female student of Rajshahi University (RU).
The incident took place when another student named Rakib Al Hasan assualted the female student on the university campus around 10:30pm on Tuesday, reports Bangla Tribune.
On Wednesday morning, the victim and the three injured students submitted a written complaint to the university administration in this regard.
The victim is a fourth-year student of the Department of Social Science of the university.
She said: “We already knew each other as Rakib lived in the same district as me. He often teases me”
“On Tuesday night, my friend and I met Rakib in front of Momtazuddin Academic Building on the way to the hall when he stopped me and tried to talk to me. But, as I refused and tried to leave, Rakib pulled me from behind and tore my dress. Later, Rakib physically assaulted me with his friends,” she added.
Upon receiving the news, the student advisor and the officer-in-charge (OC) of Motihar police station went to the spot and tried to control the situation.
On Wednesday, accused Rakib Al Hasan told Dhaka Tribune: “The victim and I had a love affair previously. I had two admissions students scheduled to arrive on Tuesday night. So, I was waiting in front of Mumtazuddin Academic Building with my female friend. At that time, when she came and asked to know the identity of my friend, there was an argument with her. At one stage, the victim slapped me, and unable to control myself, I slapped her back.”
When asked about this, RU unit Chhatra League leader Arif Hossain said: “Many of us from our department came to the scene after learning that my friend was being beaten up. We didn't hurt anyone physically there.”
“We arrived at the spot along with the OC of Motihar police and brought the situation under control. Later, we sent the victim to the residential hall. After that, I left for my office with other students,” he added.
He further said that he immediately informed the higher officials of the university administration to take appropriate action in the incident.
