Govt to announce population size Wednesday

The government will announce the country's total population on Wednesday following the publication of data collection under the “Population and Housing Census-2021” project.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics will publish the preliminary result of the data collection which started nationwide from May 15, reports Bangla Tribune.

On this occasion, a program has been organized at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Wednesday. 

Planning Minister MA Mannan will preside over the event while National Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury will be attending as the chief guest.

Besides, State Minister of Public Administration Farhad Hossain, State Minister of Planning Ministry Dr Shamsul Alam, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Planning Ministry Abul Kalam Azad will attend the program as special guests, among others.

For the first time in the country, the work of population census started digitally on May 15 by 3,65,697 enumerators.

Project Director Dildar Hossain said: “Since the data is encrypted, no one can steal or hack this information. In the census, 35 questions were asked such as type of household, number of family members, their age, type of work, marital status, religion, education, use of mobile phones.
