The Padma Bridge authorities have collected over Tk76 crore in tolls from vehicles crossing the bridge in the 30 days since the bridge was opened to traffic.
The Bridges Division disclosed the information on Tuesday.
A total of 6,17,055 vehicles used the bridge during the period, paying Tk76,09,91,350 in tolls.
The toll plaza at the Mawa point collected Tk38,17,53,750 from 301,118 vehicles, while the one at the Zajira point collected Tk37,92,37,600 from 3,06,937 vehicles.
The bridge authorities collected Tk4,19,39,650 from 31,723 vehicles from 6am on July 8 to the same time on July 9 – which is still the highest 24-hour toll collection.
Bridges Division Supervising Engineer Abul Hossain earlier told Dhaka Tribune that the number of vehicles using the bridge varied every day, resulting in a fluctuation in toll collection.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 6.15-km bridge with great fanfare on June 25.
It marked an important milestone in Bangladesh’s history, as it is a symbol not just of Bangladesh’s tenacity but of its growing economic prowess and development.
