Area-based power cuts for a specific time to save fuel are set to start on Tuesday.
Regular office timings for government and private sectors may also be decreased, but the schedule is not finalized yet.
Energy Advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury and State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said at a meeting at PMO on Monday.

The state minister also said that diesel-run power plants will remain closed from Monday. “Production at diesel-run power plants will be stopped today (Monday). Hence, 1,000MW less electricity generated.”
He added that this step will lead to more power cuts in the country periodically. Load sheddings will last for two hours in the areas, reports Bangla Tribune.

Markets and shops are ordered to close by 8pm every day, while mosques are being barred from operating ACs.

The decisions will remain in effect until further notice.
Nasrul Hamid urged everyone to work together to resolve the problem.
