2km tailback at Zajira point of Padma Bridge

A 2km gridlock was reported from Zajira point toll plaza of Padma Bridge on Friday evening.

Drivers at the spot alleged that the toll collection process is taking more than 30 minutes for each vehicle.

On top of that, hundreds of  passengers in front of the toll plaza are not getting vehicles even after waiting for hours, reports Bangla Tribune.

Abdur Rahman, a driver on the Zajira point of Padma Bridge said he came from Khulna without any traffic jam.

“I have been stuck here for a long time. Tolls should be collected more efficiently,” he added.

"My family and I have been standing here (Zajira point toll plaza ) since this afternoon and still did not manage to get a car to return to Dhaka," said businessman Kawsar.

Abul Hossain, executive engineer of Bangladesh Bridge Authority said people are returning to

Dhaka as Eid holidays are over, leading to increased vehicle pressure on the bridge.

“Tolls are not being collected slowly,” he added.
