A 30km tailback was created due to an increased number of vehicles on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangbandhu Bridge Highway in Tangail on Friday.
Hundreds of vehicles with passengers, goods and cattle were moving very slowly on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway due to long tailbacks, causing immense suffering to Eid holidaymakers.
The traffic jam has been created due to the increasing number of vehicles ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, said Md Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Elenga Highway police station.
The officer added that the vehicular movement would become normal as time advances, reports UNB.
On Friday morning, an accident on the highway caused a 20km traffic congestion.
The traffic jam started from the east side of Bangabandhu Bridge to Rasulpur in Tangail Sadar upazila.
Bangabandhu Bridge East police station officer-in-charge Shafiqul Islam told Dhaka Tribune: “One person was killed in a bus-pickup collision near pillar No 17 on the west side of the bridge.”
The bridge authorities stopped collecting toll for an hour and 40 minutes after the incident. There is also the pressure of extra vehicles, he added.
