Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said that the internet connection will be improved nationwide as Padma Bridge has reduced distances.
“The latency of the internet would be reduced from 48 milliseconds to 45 due to the reduction in distance,” he said, reports Bangla Tribune.
He said the country’s second submarine cable landing station (Kuakata) is connected to Dhaka by a huge detour.
“The cable came to Dhaka from Kuakata via the Jamuna Bridge. Now it will come from Madaripur through Padma Bridge,” he added.
Previously, Nationwide Telecommunication Transmission Network (NTTN) companies, which are end-to-end infrastructure providers that build fibre-optic networks, had to lay about 605 kilometres of fibre-optic cables to connect Dhaka with the country’s second submarine cable.
But now, the distance is only 295km.
“Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) is working to make it possible to get higher internet speed through reducing the distance,” the minister mentioned.
