Another bus damages the barrier of Padma Bridge toll plaza

A passenger bus hit the barrier of the toll plaza booth on the Zajira side of the Padma Bridge on Tuesday morning.

Kamal Hossain, toll manager at Zajira, said: “A Dhaka-bound Shariatpur Paribahan bus arrived from Shariatpur at 10am. The driver pulled quickly without taking the receipt with the toll. Later, it hit the barrier of booth number 3 hard and the barrier became crooked.”

“Everything is controlled automatically. The barrier will not open until the toll receipt is printed,” he added.

Security-in-charge detained the driver of the bus for a while. He was later released with his driving license.

However, Shariatpur Paribahan Director Arshaduzzaman refused to disclose any further details.

Padma South police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman said that no legal action could be taken in this regard as no written complaint was received.

Earlier on Sunday, a BRTC bus wrecked two barriers of the Padma Bridge toll plaza, the first day of the bridge opening to traffic.
