PM Hasina opens Padma Bridge North, South police stations

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated activities of two police stations located on the two sides of the Padma Bridge.

She inaugurated the two newly constructed police stations by joining virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban around 3:30pm on Tuesday.

The police stations are – “Padma Setu Uttar Thana”, which is under Munshiganj District police, and “Padma Setu Dakkhin Thana”, under Shariatpur District police, said Dewan Md Abdul Quader, the chief engineer of the bridge project.

The two modern police stations were set up at Mawa side and Jajira side of the country's longest 6.15-km Padma Bridge in order to ensure security to the multipurpose rail-road bridge and its users alongside maintaining the law and order in the surrounding areas.

Hasina will inaugurate the iconic Padma Bridge on next Saturday.

The prime minister also handed over 120 more houses, built in second phase by the police, to the landless and homeless people alongside opening 12 district police hospitals modernised under a project, six women barracks and online general diary (GD) system in the afternoon.

A video documentary on the five development schemes of the Bangladesh police was screened at the function.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, and Senior Secretary of Public Security Division Md Akhter Hossain spoke on the occasion while Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed gave the address of welcome.
