Govt official loses job for posting poem on Facebook

A senior assistant secretary has lost his job for posting his poem on social media platform Facebook.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Monday terminating Md Saidur Rahman from his post citing misconduct.

The expelled government official Saidur, former deputy director of the National River Conservation Committee, was earlier made OSD (Officer on Special Duty) at the public administration ministry.

According to the notification, Saidur posted an indecent and distasteful poem on his Facebook profile named Rahman Henry at 7:46 pm on October 8, 2020.

The Ministry of Public Administration filed a case against him for the alleged misconduct under the Government Employees Discipline and Appeal Rules 2018.

He was summoned on October 14, 2020 and asked whether he wanted a private hearing, reads the notification.

The government later conducted an investigation and it revealed that his official’s written explanation and personal testimony was not satisfactory.

The ministry further issued him a second show-cause notice and the response was not satisfactory there as well, the notification added.

Later, he was terminated from his job following the due procedure in view of the opinion of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) and the approval of the president.
