Ghulam Rahman, president of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), on Thursday, said the budget for the 2022-2023 financial year is conventional.
“It will be more clarifying after seeing how the market reacts to the budget. If the market goes out of control, I don't need to comment anymore,” he said.
However, Ghulam mentioned that it is not a budget for low-income people.
“While the Covid pandemic triggered a subsequent decline in people’s income, the rise in daily commodity prices does not indicate a favourable situation. This year's budget has only grown in size, as in other years,” he continued.
The CAB chief further said: “Three issues are not addressed in the budget-- an increase in commodity prices is a hazard for ordinary people; the rise between the dollar and the taka has caused a lot of turmoil, and there is a huge disparity in income between rich and the poor.”
