Former police chief AKM Shahidul Haque launches autobiography

Former inspector general of police AKM Shahidul Haque on Saturday unveiled “Police Jiboner Smriti: Shairachar Poton Theke Jongi Domon”, a book on his 32-year career in law enforcement.

The launch event was held at Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the National Museum in Dhaka’s Shahbagh.

Bangla Academy President Selina Hossain unveiled the cover of the book, which was published by The University Press Limited.

Former IGP Shahidul, recalling his days in the police force, said the role of police was crucial, as their work stretched from parliament to the slums of the country.

“But no matter where we are, we work in a hostile environment,” he said.

He added that bureaucrats did not want to change the government and the government thought the police worked for them.

“Everyone wants to use the police for their own needs and interests. But I never compromised with my duties,” he added.

The function was attended by Dhaka University’s Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam, prime minister's former secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and former IGP Mohammad Nurul Huda.
