Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar on Sunday said all mobile operators in the country will send SMS and notifications in Bengali to customers instead of English from now on and this matter is historic.
"The task behind converting SMS or notification in Bengali was challenging but it has been done properly. It is a historical event for the mother tongue and motherland," he said.
He came up with the remarks while inaugurating the program of sending notification or SMS in Bengali to the customers at Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) auditorium in Dhaka as the chief guest, a press release said.
BTRC has initiated the activity to send SMS or notifications in Bengali on the occasion of International Mother Language Day, the release added.
Highlighting the various programs undertaken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the introduction of Bengali everywhere, Jabbar said: "Today is a historic day, a great achievement of my life to be able to do this extraordinary work on the Golden Jubilee of Independence."
The minister directed the mobile operators to send cent percent SMS or notifications to the customers in Bengali by June next.
With BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder in the chair, the inaugural program was attended by Secretary to Posts and Telecommunications Division Md Khalilur Rahman as special guest, among others.
BTRC Director General Brig Gen Md Nasim Parvez presented the keynote paper in it.
