There has not been any record of human rights violations within the Bangladesh Army, says General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed.
“I have seen many countries where civilians were cruelly shot dead without any regards to human rights,” the army chief said on Saturday.
General Shafiuddin was speaking at the inaugural session of a conference organized by the Centre for Non-Resident Bangladeshi.
Bangladesh has been doing exceptionally well ever since starting their journey with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in 1988, he said before adding: “Our participation is increasing. We are at the top row of the longest participating country.”
He added that Bangladesh has been the top country participating in the peacekeeping missions since 2020.
The army chief said, in addition to their work in the missions, Bangladeshi troops has contributed greatly to the country and achieved various skills.
“Bangladesh is now a role model for development,” he said.
Speaking about the migrants, who send in remittance to the country, he said: “Bangladesh Army respects their contribution.”
He said that Bangladesh has become a fast-developing economy under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and one of the biggest achievements of the country is the army’s contribution to the Peacekeeping Missions.
