A day after Gazipur 3 MP Mohammad Iqbal Hossain’s allegation that zebras have died at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park due to negligence in duty by staff members, two officials of the park were removed from their posts on Monday.
In-charge of the park and assistant forest conservator Md Tabibur Rahman and veterinary physician Hatem Sajjad Md. Zulkarnain were removed from their posts over the deaths of 11 zebras and a tiger at the park.
The minister made the allegation while visiting the park on Sunday.
An administrative order was issued in this regard, Hussain Mohammad Nishad, forest conservator (Finance and Administration) of the Forest Department, confirmed on Monday.
Zahidul Kabir Sabuj, project director at the park, admitted on Sunday that a tiger had died in the park in January, and that the news had been concealed by the management.
After a meeting, an investigation committee was formed over the deaths of the zebras. The MP told reporters that the animals did not die of natural causes.
The zebras were killed so that the employees engaged in internal strife could blame each other and gain an upper hand, he added.
The lawmaker said nobody knew that a tiger had died in the safari park.
