Mosques asked to refrain from using ACs, markets ordered to close at 8pm

The government has ordered mosques to refrain from using air conditioners, and all market and shop owners close services at 8pm, to save electricity.

Energy Advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury and State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said at a meeting at PMO on Monday.

Strict measures will be taken against anyone who is not following this new policy, State Minister Nasrul Hamid said.

The reason behind taking this strong measure is the global fuel crisis and to prevent a fuel crisis in Bangladesh.

Besides, the fuel stations will remain closed once a week to conserve fuel and tackle the present power crisis.  


Area-based power cuts for a specific time to save fuel are set to start on Tuesday. Regular office timings for government and private sectors may also be decreased, but the schedule is not finalized yet.
