Train delay continues, homebound passengers suffer

Train schedule remains in a disarray leaving homebound passengers in a lurch ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. 

Passengers were seen waiting for hours at the Kamalapur Railway Station on Saturday, waiting for trains that were all delayed. 

The Chilahati-bound Nilsagar Express was supposed to leave the station at 6:45am. However, it has been rescheduled for 3pm. 

Shabana Begum, a resident of Mirpur-13 has been waiting with her three sons, brother and sister-in-law for the train since morning. 

“I spent Tk800 for on CNG fare to get here at 10am. Now they tell us the train will leave at 3pm,” he told Bangla Tribune. 

The Panchagarh Express was supposed to leave at 10pm last night but it did not leave as of 10am on Saturday. 

The Sundarban Express, Jamalpur Express and Ekota Express have also been delayed. 

Md Ariful Islam has been waiting on the platform since early morning for a Rangpur-bound train. 

“Rangpur Express was supposed to leave the station at 9:10am. The train wasn’t here even after 10am and I’ve been waiting here since 8am,” he added. 

Saying that he bought a ticket in advance after a 24-hour wait, those without tickets are causing having. 

“Those without tickets should not be allowed to enter the station,” he added. 

He urged authorities to be stricter regarding those boarding without ticket.
