A car drove up a divider at the toll plaza on the Mawa end of the Padma Bridge on Thursday night, damaging the narrow structure in the process.
Two people in the car sustained injuries in the incident.
Hasara highway police station Sub-Inspector Utpal Das said the driver had lost control of the car on the way to Dhaka, resulting in the accident.
The two injured persons had been rescued and taken to the local upazila health complex.
Munshiganj Traffic Inspector Bajlul Huq said it was not the first such incident there.
The car had been moved from the spot, he said, adding that traffic movement was smooth on the approach roads on either side of the bridge.
