A much-anticipated dream has come true for the people of the both ends of the Padma river. People in the area are out of words to express their pleasure after the inauguration of the Padma Bridge on Saturday.
“I can see the Padma Bridge over the mighty river from my window when I woke up. Now I will be able to climb the Padma Bridge,” this is how a girl named Kaniz Fatema Supti, a resident of Dakshin Medeni Mandal area on the number one pillar of Padma Bridge in Louhjong Mawa area, expressed her excitement.
Supti said: “I have been hearing since childhood that there will be a bridge over the Padma. We have dreamt of it. Today, our dream has come true. However, Padma Bridge still seems dream to me. No word is sufficient enough to express the joy right now.”
It is not possible to define how much unbearable pain has been alleviated by uniting the both ends of the Padma, she added.
Nahidul Islam, who came to see the inauguration program of Padma Bridge, said Padma Bridge will play role in not only saving people’s time but also their lives.
“I don’t know how many people have died on their way to the hospital for proper treatment on both ends of the river. The bridge will be able to save lives now,” added Nahidul.
On the other hand, Mahin Islam stressed the economic growth and said that Padma Bridge would boost economic growth and prosperity across the country.
Laila Begum, a resident of Kumarbhog Rehabilitation Center, said her land has been used for the construction work of the Padma Bridge. She had been paid Tk2 lakh in exchange for a three-year contract. With that money she bought a small land next to Mawa. Now she is planning to start a business there.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the much-anticipated bridge over the mighty Padma river on Saturday.
Prime Minister hoped that the bridge will change the lives of the people of at least 21 districts as new economic zones and industrial opportunities will boom in the areas following the bridge’s inauguration.
