Fire on moving train: Probe bodies launch investigation

The three probe bodies formed over the fire on a Sylhet-bound Parabat Express train have started their investigations.

On Sunday morning, the divisional investigation committee of Bangladesh Railway visited the accident site at Shamshernagar Chakkabiraji in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar.

On Saturday afternoon, two investigation committees were formed at the divisional level of Bangladesh Railway and one investigation committee was formed by Moulvibazar district administration.

The three burnt compartments of the Parabat Express were taken to Kulaura Junction railway station, said Kulaura Railway Station Master Md Mahibur Rahman.

Bangladesh Railway traffic inspector Toufiqul Azim on Sunday afternoon said that nothing could be said till the investigation is complete.

Abdul Haque, additional magistrate of Moulvibazar district, said: “Hopefully within a day or two, we would be able to tell the cause of the fire.”

Mohammad Ismail, director of the intercity Parabat Express train, said that problem in the hose pipe of the train was noticed after the train left Dhaka and reached Brahmanbaria. After repairing, the train left for Sylhet.

The fire started from the power car of the train after the train crossed Shamshernagar station. After stopping the train, the fire spread to the oil trunk inside the power car, he added.
