Customs officials detained a man along with 28 gold bars worth Tk2.5 crore from Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport on Sunday, officials said.
The detainee was identified as Shafi.
Chittagong Customs Deputy Commissioner Niamul Hasan said a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines BG-136 from Jeddah landed at the airport in the morning.
During scanning, the customs officials suspected the existence of metal objects in Shafi’s luggage and challenged him.
Later, they seized the gold bars, weighing 3kg, hidden inside a large battery charger with a torch and iron machine.
A case is being processed under the 1969 Customs Act and other applicable laws, Niamul added.
