TCB scraps decision to resume selling daily essentials from Monday

The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has backed down from their decision to resume their open market sale of daily essentials scheduled to resume from Monday, without any prior notice.

However, the corporation said that it will start selling products through family cards all over the country simultaneously from June.

TCB spokesman Humayun Kabir confirmed the matter in a press release on Sunday night.

According to the announcement, the sale was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances without naming any specific reason.

Earlier, Chairman Brig Gen Ariful Hasan confirmed that the program would be carried out in 300 trucks at the district and upazila levels besides the capital from Monday till May 30.

TCB had announced that they would supply soybean oil at Tk110 per litre against the market price of Tk198 per litre.

TCB recently proposed to the Commerce Ministry to increase the price of soybean oil by Tk20-25 per litre to reduce losses. But the Commerce Ministry has not yet agreed to TCB's proposal.

The authorities may increase price of soybean oil after reviewing market situation, according to the Daily Samakal report.
