World Malaria Day will be observed in the country on Monday and everywhere else across the globe with the theme “Harness innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives”.
The day, instituted by the World Health Assembly at its 60th session in May 2007, recognizes the global efforts to control malaria.
In Bangladesh, different organizations have chalked out various programs to mark the day. Awareness programs will also be held for controlling the mosquito-borne disease.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) sources said three districts -- Bandarban, Rangamati, and Khagrachhari -- are the most malaria-infected region in the country.
As the Chittagong hill tracts (CHT) is a malaria-prone region of the country, the authorities have given special attention to three CHT districts to make the region malaria-free.

Malaria is a preventable and treatable disease that continues to have a devastating impact on the health and livelihood of people around the world.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2020, there were an estimated 241 million new cases of malaria and 627,000 malaria-related deaths in 85 countries.
More than two-thirds of deaths were among children under the age of 5 living in the WHO African Region.
