Indian low-cost airline IndiGo started to operate direct flights on Dhaka-Hyderabad-Dhaka route from Monday.
The airline will operate two weekly flights by its AC type-A321neo, having a capacity of 232 passengers with all economy class seats, said Md Abdur Rahim, chief executive officer of Renaissance Aviation Services Ltd, an enterprise of MGH Group and GSA of IndiGo.
He said that, boosting tourism and leisure travel between Bangladesh and Telangana, the direct flights were expected to give a fillip to medical travel to Hyderabad as it is only a 2.45-hour travel.
The IndiGo Flight 6E 1931 will depart from GMR Hyderabad International Airport at 12:45pm. The return IndiGo Flight 6E 1932 from Dhaka will arrive in Hyderabad at 6:50pm.
The flight between GMR Hyderabad International Airport and Dhaka will operate twice a week – on Saturdays and Mondays.
A top official of the airline told Dhaka Tribune that around 54% of all international medical visitors to India for treatment were from Bangladesh. To attract medical tourists to the city, airlines are adding new flight routes connecting to the popular international destinations catering to the medical tourists.
However, Air IndiGo is also operating two weekly flights on Dhaka-Chennai route, three weekly flights on Dhaka-Delhi and five weekly flights on Dhaka-Kolkata routes.
