A university student died after being run over by a bus on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar late on Saturday.
The deceased is Sumaiya Khanam Usha, 22, a second-year student of business administration at Daffodil International University in Ashulia.
Her husband, who has yet to be identified, also sustained injuries in the incident, Savar highway police station OC Atikur Rahman said.
“The couple were on their way to Manikganj from Savar on a motorcycle. Usha fell from the bike when they were passing over a speed bump near the golf club. At that time, a bus coming from behind ran over her and sped off,” the OC said.
Locals rushed her to Enam Medical College and Hospital, where the doctor on duty pronounced her dead.
Usha’s family has been contacted, the police officer said, adding that legal action will be taken on the basis of their complaint.
Police had yet to track down the bus when the last report came in.
