World Autism Awareness Day to be observed on Saturday

The 15th World Autism Awareness Day will be observed in the country as elsewhere across the globe on Saturday.

The Ministry of Social Welfare has chalked out elaborate programs to observe the day in a befitting manner with the theme "Make such a world: explore the talents of people with autism”, said a press release.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to join a discussion virtually at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka on Saturday.

In 2008, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) unanimously declared April 2 as the World Autism Awareness Day to highlight the needs to improve the lives of children and adults who suffer from the disorder.

The government offices and major installations under the Social Welfare Ministry will be illuminated with blue colored light on the occasion while BTV, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels and radio stations will air special programs.

Besides, newspapers will publish special supplements highlighting the significance of the Day and road islands will be decorated with banners, festoons and placards.
