A case has been filed against five policemen, including the Hatirjheel Police OC, for reportedly not recording a rape case.
The accused include Hatirjheel OC Abdur Rashid, Inspector (Investigation) Mohiuddin Faruk, Inspector (operation) Gulam Azam, and two sub-inspectors --Shariful Islam and Choyan.
The 33-year-old woman on Tuesday, filed a case with Dhaka Woman and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 against the 13 people, accusing them of rape, assisting in the rape and not recording a case.
The eight others accused include her husband Tanim Reza Bappi, his friend Pannu Hawlader, Yunus, Jabel Hossain Papon, Md Jamal, Rakibul Hasan, Mossamat Alaya and Tofazzal Hossain.
The tribunal’s acting Judge AM Zulfikar Hayat recorded her statement but did not pass any order immediately, the plaintiff’s counsel Jakir Hossain told Dhaka Tribune.
According to the case, Tanim Reza Bappi married the woman on October 22, 2020 with the help of his friend Pannu and Yunus, Papon, Jamal, Rakibul, Alaya and Tofazzal.
Two months into their marriage, she found out that Bappi had cheated her into a fake marriage.
She alleged that Bappi raped her by cheating in the name of marriage while his friends assisted in the incident.
The woman who is now staying at her father’s house in Dhaka’s Khilgaon, also alleged that on the night of February 13, Bappi, Papon and Jamal raped her while Alaya captured the video of the incident.
She later got admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College.
On February 16, the victim went to Hatirjheel police station to lodge a complaint against Bappi and his friends, but the police refused to record the case.
