Chittagong morgue staffer arrested over ‘necrophilia’

Police have arrested a Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue staffer over accusations of a violation of two dead bodies, including that of a child.

Chittagong Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abdul Halim on Tuesday granted the police three days to question Md Selim, 48, in custody.

According to court police Sub Inspector Abshar Uddin Rubel, Selim, a temporary staffer at the CMCH morgue, was arrested on Monday.

Krishna Kamal Banik, Sub-Inspector, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), filed a case of sexual intercourse with dead bodies against him soon after his arrest.

According to CID Inspector Muhammad Sharif, the matter was discovered during the investigations into the deaths of a 32-year-old woman and a 12-year-old female child who died in two separate incidents a year ago.

The bodies of the woman and the child were sent to CMCH for autopsy on February 8 and April 25 last year, said Inspector Sharif.

Krishna Kamal Banik, during the investigation, collected HVS samples from the bodies and submitted them to a CID forensic lab in Dhaka.

The tests found evidence of rape in both bodies and further DNS tests revealed that the sperm found in both bodies belonged to the same man.

Inspector Sharif said officers suspected Selim, who had been guarding the bodies there.

“He was later asked to have tea at the CID office where samples from his saliva were collected,” he added.

The samples were sent to Dhaka for analysis and tests confirmed that the sperm and the saliva belonged to the same person.
