Sources said the disruption put the country's south western 21 districts disconnected from Dhaka.
Earlier since Saturday afternoon, strong tide of the river forced stop the service of biggest ferry Ro-Ro.
Aricha Ferry Sector Deputy General Manager Sheikh Mohammad Nasim confirmed the interruption to the Dhaka Tribune and said: “Vehicular movement to ferry via one of the three ghats remained active till this morning though the rest two earlier got damaged by high tidal surge of the Padma River.
Around 9am, the sole ferry has also been badly damaged halting the service wholly. Thousands of vehicle got stuck on both sides of the route to cross the river.”
Manager (commerce) of Daulatdia Ferryghat Md Shafiqul Islam said: “We are trying our best to resume the ferry service.”
