Audio-visual series 'Naritto' comes to an end

An audio-visual series titled “Naritto:Telling stories of Womanhood” came to an end on Thursday.

The audio-visual collection was created by Kotha in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, Bonhishikha, and Naripokkho, read a press release published by Goethe-Institut on Tuesday.

“Telling stories of Womanhood” is designed to explore womanhood and people’s intrapersonal relationship with it. The series that started on June 2 consists of six audio-visual pieces.

Kotha aspires to archive the different meanings of womanhood for people at varying stages of their life starting from age 15 to 69 years. The series is available @cholokothaboli on Facebook and Instagram, read the statement.

Kotha asked six Bangladeshis who, regardless of their gender, felt any connection to womanhood and to experiences of womanhood – How would you define womanhood? How has your perception of womanhood evolved over time? How has womanhood affected your experience? Do you draw strength from womanhood?

One thing that connected all these speakers is all the different challenges and resistances they faced, but by drawing strength from their narittho, their womanhood became a part of their power, read the press release.

The audio pieces are interpreted by artist Prithi Khalique. Through Prithi’s art people can experience a new sense of the female imagination that is decentered and fluid – showing how women are profoundly alienated and limited by patriarchal societies.

Founded in 2016, Kotha is a feminist organization tackling the root causes of gender-based violence in Bangladesh through primary interventions.

Naripokkho is a pioneer of the feminist movement in Bangladesh with immense contribution in areas of violence against women (VAW), sexual health, economic and political empowerment.

Bonhishikha has been using theatre to engage society in important conversations around gender and sexuality and challenge gender norms.

The Goethe-Institut has been supporting initiatives that promote cultural understanding with recent work in creating feminist vodcasts and projects surrounding the concept of gender.
