Six people died in separate accidents in Dhaka and Gazipur between Tuesday evening and Wednesday.
In Dhaka, Sumaiya Akhter, 19, from Jessore, died in an accident in the capital’s Wari area.
The incident took place at Joy Kali Mandir Hotcake Alley at around 1:30pm on Wednesday, according to Wari police Sub-Inspector (SI) Azhar Hossain.
She was sitting beside her husband Md Shakil, who is a leguna driver (small, four-wheeler vehicle), which overturned near the temple and crushed Sumaiya, seriously injuring her.
Her husband rescued her in critical condition and took her to Salauddin Hospital. From there he took her to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at 2:30pm where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
There were eight other passengers on the vehicle who were slightly injured, said the sub-inspector.
Md Shakil, who is from Narayanganj, said they got married on February 4 last year.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Azhar Hossain said the body of the deceased had been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Md Zahidul Islam, 29, of Jhalakati Sadar upazila, was killed when a bus hit his motorcycle in Nabinagar area, while he was on his way to see his ailing mother-in-law.
The incident occurred at around 12:30pm on Wednesday.
He used to live with his wife Monira and their eight-month-old son in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh area. Both the husband and wife had been working as staff nurses at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Md Ziaful Islam, younger brother of the deceased, said: “Zahidul left home on a motorcycle in the morning to visit his mother-in-law in Natore. Later, I received the news that he had been in a road accident in Nabinagar area.”
Zahidul was brought to the emergency department of DMCH, where he was pronounced dead, he added.
Mohammad Bachchu Mia, officer in-charge of DMCH police outpost, said Zahidul's body was in DMC morgue.
Domestic worker Sujata Rani Barman, 27, of Neyamatpur upazila of Naogaon district, was killed when she was hit by a pickup van in Maragang, Ashulia, on the Tongi-Ashulia-EPZ road.
She is the wife of Saday Barman of Neyamatpur upazila of Naogaon district. She worked as a housemaid in the Turag area while staying at a rented house.
In Gazipur, garments worker Kohinoor Akhter, 32, was on her way to the factory at around 8am when she was hit by a speeding truck near Konabari police station's Ambagh area, said Konabari OC Abu Siddique.
Kohinoor Akhter died on the spot. She was the wife of Nazmul Islam of Ranakanda village in Mymensingh's Fulbaria upazila and used to work in a local garment factory from a rented house in Ambagh area.
Tariqul Islam, 18, and Mehedi Hasan, 19, were going to Gazipur from Kapasia on a motorcycle when they collided head-on with a speeding Kapasia-bound bus of Ambassador Path Sathi Paribahan on Tuesday evening
Sreepur police station OC Khandaker Imam Hossain said the incident took place in front of the ACI gate of Rajabari area of Sreepur upazila. Tariqul Islam was killed on the spot and Mehedi Hasan died on the way to hospital.
