Bangladesh has enforced a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus. A large number of poor and low-income people have been badly affected by the pandemic and facing an unprecedented economic crisis. The affected people are in worry and struggling to meet their basic daily needs. The low-income daily laborers are in the most vulnerable position. As the nationwide lockdown continues, these people are forced to stay home without any income. As a result, many of the families are left with no other option but to starve.
Amidst this crisis, the US-based non-profit organization “Agami Incorporated” and its sister organization “Agami Education Foundation” have come forward once again to the aid of the marginalized and jobless people. They have initiated a month-long program to distribute emergency relief and hygiene products.

Like last year, emergency relief has been distributed among 5000 people of 1264 helpless families of the students of Agami-funded schools.
The program officially started on 10 May with Alok Shikkhaloy, a Dhaka-based school for underprivileged children. This year, the relief has been distributed among the students and their families of 5 schools in Dhaka (Alok Shikkhaloy, Sohag Swapnadhara Pathshala, PSD Peyarabag School, PSD Nandipara School, and Imeprial Hope School) and one school in Jhenaidah (Laksmipur Shimanto Bajar Primary School).
Food items included 5 kg of rice, 5 kg of potatoes, 1 kg of pulse, 1 kg of sugar, and 1 kg of salt. Besides, essential hygiene products like masks and soaps have been provided to every family. Moreover, students have been given color pencils and drawing books as Eid gifts, which brought additional joy to them.
Nafisa Khanam, Executive Director of Agami Education Foundation said, they will continue to provide relief to the students of other schools and their families after Eid. She also said, “We are grateful to the people who provided us with a donation, suggestion, and labor or assisted us in any way to implement this timely initiative.” Besides, the organization urged the privileged people of the society to come forward to help the people who need assistance and engage in the program in the future.
